Would you know how to reunite a lost pet with its owner, or how to locate your lost pet? Maybe we can help. Email this site with a picture or description of the lost or found pet and we will send the information out to our neighbors. Also, listed below are several other things that you can do. - Look in your neighbor's yard first, then spread out to adjoining lanes. Speak to everyone you see and tell them that your pet is loose, or that you have just found a pet, and to please call you if he/she is spotted. Be sure to give them the pet's description and name if known.
- The postman and landscape people are another good source. And don't forget children--they notice animals more than we adults do. Offer a small reward to a kid on a bike, for he can cover a lot of territory!
- Post signs on each street corner within a two mile radius of your home.
- Contact vets in this area to tell them you have found/lost a pet.
- Print up some flyers on your computer and post them at every street corner within a half-mile. Also, ask the local Publix or Winn-Dixie if you can put one in their store. Don't forget the Farm Store and the other convenience store at the West end of Riverland Road. If you have found a pet, withhold a piece of information from your poster that only the true owner would know.
The Broward County Animal Care and Regulation (AC&R) people have a pretty good website. In particular, their database of animal registration numbers are accessible on-line. If you have had a pup wander into your yard and it still has its tag, then you might be able to locate the owner with a few keystrokes. Unfortunately, they might not be up-to-date but are updating the database. If you get no results try the old tag number. Good reason for leaving last-year's tag on the collar. Also more and more people are having an ID chip implanted in a pet's ear. Be sure to have a vet scan for one.
Injured or Sick animals that you may find should be immediately reported to the AC&R people by calling954- 359-1313 ext. 252
Wild Animals, such as raccoons, are not handled by the AC&R people. However, if you call them at 954- 359-1313 they will assist you in getting someone out to trap the critter.
