Guest: Officer John Kane - Ft. Lauderdale Police Department
Minutes of Trustee’s meeting of October 19, 2006 was approved.
Treasurer Keith Lindgren read his financial statement report for fiscal period 11/1/05 through 9/11/06 with a total income of $8,318.00, total expenses was $933.96; excess of income over expenses was $7,384.04, additional cash in bank as of 11/1/05 is $13,587.76 and new cash reserves as of 9/11/06 is $20,971.80.
Officer John Kane reported as of September 1st through October 31, 2006 there were five vehicle burglaries in September and six in October and one residence burglary in October. He again advised to lock doors and do not leave anything on the front seat of your car. Suspects are riding bikes through the neighborhood and breaking into vehicles.
He reported there were no boat thefts recently. A question was raised about soliciting and can it be stopped. It was suggested to place a no trespassing sign on your property in order to deter the solicitors from coming to your door. A resident asked a question on parking on the grass swale in front of their house, in which officer Kane said all four wheels be within the grass swale. Any car parked with wheels on the asphalt could be considered as obstructing traffic. Leland Easton again mentioned the fast moving traffic on Marathon Lane. Officer Kane stated if anyone sees anything suspicious they should contact the police department.
Next on the agenda were the nominations and elections of officers.
Treasurer Keith Lindgren was re-elected and accepted the position as treasurer.
Charles Love was nominated and elected as president. Sharon Barre was nominated and elected as vice president. Marie Love was nominated and elected as secretary.
All voting members approved and second these elections.
The next issue discussed was annexation / rezoning of Lauderdale Isles in which
Charles Love reiterated that the city of Fort Lauderdale has hired Dickey Consulting Services to provide annexation rezoning consulting services. As of now Broward County zoning codes are still in effect. Most residents agreed that Broward County’s zoning codes work for this waterfront community. It was also noted that we need to know the difference between Fort Lauderdale zoning codes and Broward County zoning codes in order to accept and understand the changes that may take place.
Charles suggested when we receive notice as to when these work shops will take place, we as concerned residents should attend. Some questions asked were, could we request and receive special zoning for our waterfront community? Can we suggest to the city to retain the Broward County’s zoning code?
More discussion followed including set back of docks, and fences, oversized boats in the canals and height restrictions of buildings, also the number of units per acre. Jim Crockett was concerned about the condition and appearance of wood fences along Riverland Road and other front yards. It was noted by Charles Love that the city’s building department is requiring a two foot set back from the property line to the face of any constructed wall or fence and that this two foot area should be landscaped.
These and many other issues should be addressed at the workshops. It was noted that there are exactly 688 single family homes in Lauderdale Isles.
Tony Chiocca a resident of Lauderdale Isles was out spoken during these discussions.
He was in favor of keeping Broward County zoning codes as it stands. He also stated he submitted a bid to the City of Fort Lauderdale along with other firms to provide annexation rezoning consulting services for much lower fees than Dickey Consulting Services. It was noted Dickey Consulting Services would be paid $74,000 to do this overlay study.
Leland Easton asked about the status of the lane signs. Charles Love informed the group that Leland pledged matching funds of $8,000, LICIA will provide an additional $8,000 and the City of Fort Lauderdale will match this amount of $16,000. Charles, Harriet Hodgson and Sharon Barre will make a presentation on December 7th to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s NCIGP Committee. There should be some determination mid January 2007.
Riverland Road trees was next on the agenda. The city of Ft. Lauderdale, Parks and Recreation Department is meeting with Charles Love to present a master landscape plan of Riverland Road. The city is looking into a pilot program to relocate certain trees from beneath the existing FPL power lines. The city is suggesting that the 14 live oaks recently planted by Broward County be relocated to the north side of Riverland Road.
The association paid $5,000 to install seven large live oaks on the west end of Riverland Road. Five of the seven trees died due to lack of watering, hurricane Katrina and the FEMA clean up crews. The city is leaning toward installing Crepe Myrtles on the south side of Riverland Road and Oaks on the north side of Riverland Road.
General Discussion:
The operation of the new Riverland Road traffic light was questioned and its’ status was unknown. (By the time I got around to writing these minutes the traffic light has been installed, painted and made operational).
Meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marie Love - Secretary
