MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEETING
FEBRUARY 15, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Charles Love The following board members and trustees were present: Charles Love, Sharon Barre, Marie Love, Ruth Ann Lindgren, Yelka Mikolji, Fran Zeitz, Sabrina Farmer,
Leland Easton, Bud Bracey, Michael Nicholas, Jim Crockett, Rich Thompson. There were enough voting members present to meet a quorum. Guest: Officer Eric Perez - Ft. Lauderdale Police Department
Minutes of Trustee’s meeting of January 18, 2007 was approved. Ruth Ann Lindgren read the Treasurer’s report for fiscal period 11/1/06 through 2/15/07. Dues collected $3,095.00, newsletter advertisements $680.00. Total income $3,775.00. As of 2/15/07 there is $23,333.66 in the account.
Officer Perez gave a two month report from December 1, 2006 through January 31, 2007.
There were six crimes reported in two months. In December there was one residential burglary, one vehicle burglary and one vehicle theft. In January there was one residential burglary and two vehicle thefts. When asked if he knew the outcome of these crimes he responded he did not know the results. He advised not to keep any valuables in your vehicle and maybe invest in an alarm system for your home. A question was asked what the response time was when calling in a crime in which officer Perez stated it all depends on the severity of the crime.
Next on the agenda was annexation / rezoning in which Charles Love gave a summary of what has happened regarding this issue. Four years ago Lauderdale Isles was annexed into the city of Fort Lauderdale from Broward County. The city has hired Dickey Consulting Services to coordinate the rezoning process through workshops in order to get community input.
An 8 ½ x 5 ½ open house card from the city of Fort Lauderdale was sent to all residents.
There were two meetings one on January 30th and one on February 1st held at St. Thomas Aquinas High School which was to provide residents with an overview of the rezoning process. Three community groups were present at these meetings. Very few Lauderdale Isles residents were in attendance due to this poorly advertised notice. Approximately fifteen pages of information regarding zoning codes was distributed which was about half of what should have been distributed and in some cases even more pages were missing and only one of these pages applied to the Isles. The information provided at these meetings was very confusing to all and only the residents who attended received this incomplete information. These meetings were also poorly conducted.
There will be a workshop on March 29th between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. for Lauderdale Isles residents to be held at Lauderdale Isles Yacht and Tennis Club on Whale Harbor. This will be an opportunity for residents to discuss and develop recommendations regarding zoning, Broward County zoning vs. City of Fort Lauderdale zoning.
Suggestions and concerns of residents present were voiced. We are a unique community and wish to preserve the existing character. Keep Broward County zoning, keep the neighborhood the same and no changes were the comments.
It was noted, at this upcoming workshop on March 29th we should speak up and let the city of Fort Lauderdale and Dickey Consultants know what we want for our community; we should be able to pick and choose. It must be kept simple and clear cut so all could understand.
It was suggested, voted and second to invite city staff members, city commissioner, Cindi Hutchinson, Dickey Consultants and FAU graphic artists to attend our Trustees meeting on March 15th to review in graphic form and explain the changes from our present county zoning to city of Fort Lauderdale zoning. It was also voted on that a flyer be written, printed and distributed to Lauderdale Isle residents to attend the Trustees meeting on March 15th.
Trees on Riverland Road was next on the agenda. It was noted that FPL was not to transplant trees from the south side of Riverland Road to the north side. Eventually the city will be planting new trees on the south side of Riverland Road.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marie Love - Secretary
