 1. President Rich Thompson called the meeting to order at 7:41PM.

2. President Rich Thompson introduced the trustees and alternates.

 3. The meeting was adjourned for a short time while BSO handed out “The Club” theft-deterrent device to those in attendance.

 4. The meeting reconvened and President Rich Thompson introduced Charles Klinger and Pat Saba from Broward County Zoning Services. Mr. Klinger answered questions concerning parking, RV’s, boats, trailers, commercial vehicles, etc. He stated that his office would be conducting a sweep of Lauderdale Isles in the near future to identify infractions. He went on to say that the sweep would take place during the day, evenings, and on weekends. In particular, they will be looking for commercial vehicles regularly parked at residences.

 5. BSO Deputy Dave Currie reported that crime was still down in the Isles. He did, however, mention that there had been a rash of burglaries from commercial vehicles north of Riverland Rd. He warned us not to leave tools, ladders, air compressors, etc., in a vehicle overnight. We in the Lauderdale Isles should be especially vigilant along these lines, for if we are seen as “easy pickings,” a trend of burglaries could develop.

 6. Treasurer Keith Lindgren reported a balance of $10,622.81. He added that we now have 203 dues-paid members, including 19 that have paid this evening It was MOVED and SECONDED that the treasurer’s report be accepted. The motion PASSED.

 7. It was MOVED and SECONDED that the reading of the minutes of the February 2000 general meeting be dispensed with and that those minutes be accepted as written. The motion PASSED.

 8. President Rich Thompson reported on the status of the T-docks at Hacienda Cove saying that they will not be as large as originally planned. The Hacienda Cove management stated that they have allocated $2400 per unit for landscaping of the area. Boat storage and launching will not be allowed at the ramp on their property, but kayaks will be available for rent.  The management went on to say that they would be willing to have their landscaping people come to Lauderdale Isles residents to live on the ends of the canals to help them “spruce up” their properties so that residents of Hacienda Cove would have a nicer view.

 9. President Rich Thompson asked for volunteers to assist Ollie Kollman with the newsletter production on a more or less permanent basis.

10. President Rich Thompson opened the issue of the proposed rezoning of the area now occupied by the Bradford and Roscioli yards. He introduced Gary Starkweather who presented a flow chart outlining three responses to the rezoning that we residents of Lauderdale Isles could take:

1--Not opposed, request to be “kept in the loop”

2--Have some concerns, work with Davie and the yards

3--Opposed, fight it tooth and nail

Rich then took the floor a spoke to the issue of adopting option 2. After discussion, it was MOVED and SECONDED that option 2 is to be adopted. Further, a committee of 5-10 residents of Lauderdale Isles is to be formed to schedule meetings with the Town of Davie and Mr. Roscioli for the purpose of negotiation of terms and conditions acceptable to all concerned. The motion PASSED.

The following residents signed up to be on the above committee:

George Counts 584-4926      Ray Figueroa 327-9259

Steve Siems 583-6834        Robert Trafford 587-8311

Jerry Gottsacker 583-2324   Pam Henegar 467-3995 or 587-9782
Anker Pearce 584-2293       Elaine Peterick 792-7019
      Dirk Lowry 584-3783

Pete Sheridan suggested that a letter be sent to Mr. Roscioli and the Town of Davie stating the consensus of those present tonight. It was MOVED and SECONDED that such letter be sent as soon as possible. The motion PASSED.

11. Ann Guardino called for volunteers to help with the neighborhood cleanup on 10 June. Members were asked to use the sign-up sheet.

12. Elaine Peterick announced that there would be a fund-raising plant swap at the yacht club on 24 June and invited all to come.

13. President Rich Thompson stated that he had some “Save The Manatee” signs that he would like all residents on the south end of all canals to display.

14. President Rich Thompson said that the completion date for the park under construction across from the storage facility is July 2000.

15. Rich mentioned that the tone of articles in the latest newsletter was somewhat negative and called for more positive thinking in the future.

16. Rich also mentioned that our web site now contains a page that addresses zoning issues and invited all to visit the site.

17. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:31PM

Respectfully submitted, Terry Simonds, Secretary
