that it was illegal to place a sign on county property without a permit. She
emphasized that under no circumstances should a sign be attached to our entrance
signs.
6.
Ruth-Ann Lindgren reported on the “Reward Thy Neighbor” project. Ruth-Ann
presented awards to Robert Trafford of Marathon Lane, last-quarter’s winner
and Creig and Julie McEwen of Whale Harbor Lane. Both were presented with
markers that could be placed in their yards.
7.
Terry Simonds presented two suggestions he had received concerning the web site.
The first was to add a page that could be used as a bulletin board for items to
swap, while the second was a page that would list testimonials from residents
who have had good results from trades people. After a short discussion it was
agreed that both pages would be a good idea.
8.

was MOVED and SECONDED that nominations for officers for the coming year be

President Ann Guardino opened discussion on the Florida Petroleum Processors
superfund cleanup site. Joan Sheridan reported that tests are not showing any
harmful chemicals in our drinking water. For further information and details,
all were referred to the Riverland Library where copies of all reports on this
project are kept.
10.
The issue of Hacienda Cove, being built across the river from Lauderdale Isles
was raised. Richard Thompson, president elect, remarked that we must form a
“land-use” committee and keep track of what is happening at the construction
site. In particular, he remarked, we must learn the details of an 1800-ft dock
proposed on the property and its impact on the river, liveaboards, navigation,
lighting, landscaping, and properties here in Lauderdale Isles. Richard
volunteered to form such a committee and invited those interested to sign up
tonight.
11.
Joan Sheridan reported that a landscaping effort is underway on Davie Blvd. East
of I95. Palm trees and pavers will be used in the median. Also, palms will be
planted in Riverland Rd. in the median from SR7 to the curve. She went on to say
that the ISTEA funding for the Riverland Rd. beautification program is still in
place and work should start early next year.
12.
President Ann Guardino described a petition to reserve 20% of the reef area off
Ft. Lauderdale as a “no-fishing” area. The petition, entitled “A Petition
to Establish Greater Ft. Lauderdale Marine Protected Areas” is intended to
increase the fish population. After discussion, it was MOVED and SECONDED that
LICIA write a letter to the appropriate person(s) stating that the association
is in favor of such action. The motion PASSED.
There
being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:19PM
Respectfully
submitted, Terry Simonds, Secretary
