4. President Starkweather raised the issue of the entry-way landscaping project, saying that there are still several lanes that need planting. After some discussion, it was MOVED and SECONDED that a one-time budget of $200 be approved for the purpose of paying for time and materials for a gardener to finish planting, fertilizing, mulching, and stabilizing the entry-way landscaping on those lanes yet unplanted. The motion PASSED.

After some discussion, it was agreed that Gary Starkweather would supervise the collection of plants from the nursery and the planting of these plants as appropriate. The plants are to be temporarily stored at ANI behind the locked fence.

5. After discussion, it was MOVED and SECONDED that an annual budget of $600 be established for the maintenance of the entry-way plantings on all lanes. The motion PASSED.

It was agreed that Gary Starkweather would chair a committee to supervise the maintenance of all entry-way plantings for as long as George Lewis can be used as a professional gardener. It was suggested that perhaps the homeowners at each corner could be asked to keep an eye on things and water, weed, etc., as required.

6. Treasurer Betty-Ann Campbell presented the treasurer's report in which she stated a balance of $6640.77. It was MOVED and SECONDED that the treasurer's report be accepted as read. The motion PASSED.

7. President Starkweather announced that Ollie Kollman of 2430 Sugarloaf Lane has volunteered to be the editor of the association's quarterly Newsletter.

8. President Starkweather announced that a Whale Harbor resident has offered to donate gratis some small trees, shrubs, etc., to anyone in the Isles who may want one. The plants will be stored in the locked fenced area at ANI.

9. President Starkweather raised the issue of the proposed County-initiated change to the zoning regulations. He stated that most of the changes are in response to a State-mandated order to have all local and county zoning regulations read roughly the same. He went on to say that one change that could have a severe impact on Lauderdale Isles homeowners is the allowance of "Group Homes," in which several or many unrelated people could be housed.

Gary went on to say that we have about 90 days in which to respond to a document received from the Zoning and Code Enforcement office of the County. Copies of this document are available tonight.

George Counts stated that attendance at County hearings is extremely important. The next scheduled hearings are 12 Dec and 22 Dec. He urged as many as possible to attend.

10. George Counts reported that water-quality testing is underway, and that he will be meeting with the engineers soon to establish the protocol for testing.

11. Joan Sheridan reported that the request of U.S. Rentals for a change of zoning for their facility on US441 had been denied. Norm Wright added several details that described the case history and the denial process.

12. President Starkweather introduced Don Mackaravitz, chairman of the Nominating Committee, who presented the slate of nominations for new officers of the Lauderdale Isles Civic Improvement Association.
