There were enough voting members present to meet a quorum
Also present Lauderdale Isles resident George Counts
Guest: Officer T.J. White - Fort Lauderdale Police
Department
The minutes of Trustees Meeting of November 15th
were E mailed earlier and approved.
It was noted the minutes were posted on LICIA website.
Treasurer Keith Lindgren read the financial statement from
11/1/07 through 1/15/08 reporting income of $3,230.00 which was from dues and
advertising. Total expenses were $16,344.04 of that $14,906.00 went towards a
partial payment for the construction and installation of our proposed new lane
signs. New cash reserves as of 1/15/08 is $17,274.28.
Police Officer T.J. White did not have statistics or a
report as it was not printed in time for our meeting.
He did state that this is a quiet neighborhood with not as much crime as other neighborhoods.
He indicated the city is short handed and understaffed.
It was noted that there is still a problem with cars being parked on the
road way. Officer White advised to call dispatch and file a complaint.
Charles informed the group that we need articles for our
newsletter with the deadline at the end of this month. Articles are to be sent
to our newsletter editor Yelka Mikolji. Our last newsletter contained a number
of single page flyers that brought in approximately $250.00. Charles had
solicited businesses to advertise in our newsletter with a one page flyer at a
charge of $100.00 for a one time ad. This charge helped defer the cost of
printing our newsletter. It appears
that there is interest in this type of advertisement, and the marine industry
would be a good source of advertisements. It was suggested that Rich Thompson
write an article on the present Real Estate Market. The 2008 membership
application would again be in our newsletter. To be included in our February
newsletter will be a list of our current paid members.
Charles gave a brief update on Value Place Hotel stating it
was put on hold until March. Planning
& Zoning requested two additional items; one was a traffic study by an
independent traffic consultant and the second was a review by the city as to
whether or not the present property has the correct zoning.
The developer is presently conducting his due diligence research and we
are not sure if
Value Place
owns this property at this time.
Charles reported on the current status of our lane signs.
The sign company is still in the process of manufacturing the lane signs, the
City of
Fort Lauderdale
is still in the process of approving our $16,300.00 matching funds check and
Broward
County
is still in the process of approving the 13 lane sign locations. It is quite a
process.
The 2008 election of Board Members and appointees of lane
Trustees are to take place at our next General Meeting on February 21st
2008. We will need to elect a vice
president and a secretary. Our Vice President Sharon Barre announced that she
and her husband are relocating to
New Mexico
. We also need lane trustees for
Cat Cay Lane
and
Marathon Lane
. Ollie Kollmann our present web master will be resigning from her position, but
indicated she would continue until we find a new web master and would assist in
the transition. Charles made contact
with a couple on
Key Largo Lane
who indicated they would be interested in becoming LICIA web master.
Joan Sheridan and Gary Starkweather dropped off six very
large decaying storage boxes containing very old Lauderdale Isles records which
Charles and Marie Love condensed into six smaller banker boxes which we are
presently storing. Charles requested
assistance in determining what should be done with all these files.
Harriet and Charles spoke briefly about Lauderdale Isles
Water Management Drainage District and the $15.00 annual charge collected by
Broward
County
from waterfront homes in the Isles. There
is approximately $40,000 in this fund to be used for canal clean up.
We are presently trying to use this money for other projects such as
signage along the south fork of the
New River
within Lauderdale Isles.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marie Love - Secretary
